Community rallies around baby Knox

Posted: Updated:

The community coming out in droves to show their unwavering support for a local family who lost their young son.

The Palmers of La Porte City lost their son Knox to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or SIDS in December of last year.

Four months later Elisha and Mark Palmer founded the Knox Blocks Foundation in their son's honor.

The foundation aims to prevent other families from going through the same nightmare, by providing families with an Owlet.

The Owlet is a device that monitors a baby's vitals and alerts parents to any changes.

Each device costs about $300, so Knox Blocks works to provide them free of charge.

Friday, the Palmers held the first major fundraiser for the foundation at the La Porte City Golf Course.

The support of the hundreds who attended the event, meaning the world to the Palmers.

"We are honored that we can fulfill his legacy and we are overwhelmed by everything people have done for this," said Elisha Palmer.

The foundation has only been in place for three-months, but has already provided Owlets for 100 families.

The hope is to provide 100 more with the money raised from this event.
