Cedar Valley Humane Society loses air conditioning on hot day

Posted: Updated:

An eastern Iowa animal shelter is struggling during one of the hottest times of the year.

The Cedar Valley Humane Society posted on Facebook one of their main air conditioning units broke yesterday.

The cost to replace it is more more than 7 thousand dollars.

They're working to keep the area the unit covered cool with fan.

Here's what they posted on Facebook:

URGENT: One of the shelter’s central air conditioning units and furnaces has failed beyond repair.

We are doing everything we can to keep the area the unit is attached to cool with fans (stray cats and kittens are housed in the area), but it is very difficult in the summer heat.

The central air unit and the attached furnace system must be completely replaced immediately to keep our animals cool and healthy!

The cost (after energy company rebates) is $7,280. With the thousands of animals that we take in annually, the demands on our shelter’s infrastructure are incredibly high and unfortunately, costs like these take away funding from our rescue and medical operations.

Please consider donating to VHS today to help the critters currently living here at the shelter!
