University police issue crime alert

University of Iowa police issued a crime alert after a man threatened an university employee with a knife.

Police said on July 16, around 7:50 p.m., the employee was walking to her vehicle on level 1 of the Melrose Avenue Parking Facility and a man was trying to remove a bumper sticker from her car. The woman attempted to intervene when the man then displayed a knife. 

The woman fled and called police but police were unable to locate the suspect. The suspect is described as a white male in his late 20s with blonde hair and a longer goatee. He was said to be wearing a white ball cap, a light blue short sleeved shirt, and khaki shorts with pockets.

The incident is under investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to called police at 335-5022.
