Video may help solve bicycle attack

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Waterloo police are investigating a bicycle theft, but also looking to see if the potential suspects are related to recent assaults, including one on the bike trail last Sunday.

According to Captain Mohlis, video shows the bike theft from a front porch on Western Ave on July 16, recorded by a home surveillance system. The group of kids appears to be similar to the suspects described by the victim of a recent trail assault.

Mohlis says the department has received complaints about three separate assaults over the past few days in the downtown area.

On the recent assaults, the subjects on bicycles have confronted the victims and then began punching and/or kicking them.

"These are multiple groups of kids anywhere from the ages of 12-18 that are riding bicycles through the neighborhood as a large group," said Captain Mohlis. "One of them basically commits an assault on the victim. All of these injuries have been minor injuries not serious injuries, but they're acting as a unified group of kids."

All the victims received minor injuries. Police are asking for the public assistance in identifying the subjects.

If you have any information, please contact Waterloo Police Department or Cedar Valley Crime Stoppers.
