FORT DODGE (KWWL) -

Clarksville erased an early 5-0 deficit as the Indians rallied past Belle Plaine for a 9-8 win and a spot in the class 1A state softball semifinals.

Belle Plaine opened the scoring on a 3-run shot off the foul pole by Katy Ward in the first inning. The Plainsmen added two more in the top of the second for a 5-0 lead. That's when Clarksville responded.

Janet Borchardt drove a base hit scoring Makayla Holub and Chole Ross. Emma Pope followed with an RBI single to cut the deficit to a pair. Bethany Negen erased that with a rope in to right field that plated two more.

The two teams traded a pair of runs over the next few innings, but Holub put Clarksville ahead for good in the bottom of the 6th with a base hit to center that drove in a pair of runs for a 7-5 lead at the time. Both turned out to be critical as Clarksville gave up a solo home run in the top of the seventh before shutting the door.

The Indians will face Sigourney in the state semifinals on Thursday.
