Kee High and IC Regina advance at State Softball

Posted: Updated:

With a repeat on their minds - the top ranked Keehawks got things going right away against Montezuma -

with a lot of runs coming in the second inning - Sydney Strong - out of the 9 hole - drills a bases loaded double to right - 2, nothing Kee in the lead -

and they kept running in circles - Kendra Cooper drives in 2 more - Kee got 5 in the inning for a 5, run lead -

and in the 5th - they'd put it way - Nicki Wood's base hit to center scores Strong as they'd add 4 more -

while on the mound - Cooper gave up just one run on 3 hits as the Keehawks steamrolled Montezuma 18, 1 -

Sydney Strong/Kee Senior

"A lot of teams think you're an 8, 9 batter, you're not very good, but everybody in our line-up works hard and everybody has the capability to hit the ball hard."

The Keehawks 18 runs and 23 hits both tied the all-class tournament records - in class 2A - last year's runner-up was looking for a similar performance --

And while not on the same level - the Regina Regals did have some pop in their bats against North Union -

In the third - Katie Bracken goes in to launch mode - a 2 run shot to left-center - 2, nothing Regals -

and they broke it open in the 6th - Sarah Lehman gets under one - a high drive to left gets over the fielder for an RBI double, Regals up 4, 1

and stickin' on the gas as Bracken gets a base knock to right driving in her third run of the game - and Iowa City Regina takes care of business with an 8 to 1 win

Jon Prottsman/Regina Head Coach

" A nice hit by Katie. Casey had a nice double, and Emmar Corkery's nice shot that got it started, so it was a good team win."
