TRAER (KWWL) -

Andrew Mohr drove in John Colsch with a seventh inning sacrifice fly. The late run made the difference as the Hudson Pirates topped Gladbrook-Reinbeck 3-2 for a spot in the class 1A sub-state finals.

The Pirates, who opened the post-season two games below the .500 mark, have rallied to win three straight and put themselves within spitting distance of the state tournament.

Hudson opened the scoring on Saturday night as Colsch drilled a two-RBI base hit in to center for a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Gladbrook-Reinbeck charged back in the bottom half as Joe Smoldt drove in a run with a triple to the wall in right field. Smoldt scored on a ground-out later in the inning to tie the game at two apiece.

Hudson junior C.J. Christopher picked up the win, striking out four, while allowing two runs in a complete game performance.

“Coach told us at the beginning of the year that we just need to be playing relaxed baseball,” Christopher said afterward, “That's what we've been doing the last 3 games and now we're here.”

The Pirates will face Kee High in the substate final on Tuesday in Waverly.
