Update: Cyclist identified in life-threatening fall

Linn County authorities say 46-year-old Toby Dean Freese of Cedar Rapids was unresponsive after falling to the ground from his bike Saturday.

First responders were called to Ely for the incident, and they say he was not wearing a helmet.

Authorities say they were called to State Street after Freese lost control of his bike and fell.

No vehicles or other bikes were in the area during the time of the fall.


Linn County authorities say a male bicyclist was taken to the hospital after falling to the ground, and they were injured in Ely Saturday.

Authorities say it happened around 2 p.m. 

Linn County authorities are confirming the bicyclist was taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics to be treated.

Right now, authorities aren't releasing the cyclist's name or age, until family members are notified.

The Sheriff's Office confirms nobody else was involved in the crash.
