Authorities investigating death of Riverside toddler

Posted: Updated:

In November, a child was found unresponsive inside a Riverside home.

Washington County Attorney, John Gish, said law enforcement responded to the 1061 Poplar Blvd home in Riverside, on November 9, 2016, around 11:05 a.m..

Gish would not reveal the identity of the child or answer further questions.

"I do not wish to comment further as there is an ongoing investigation," he wrote.

A woman living near the home said on that day she was driving home when she saw the coroner's vehicle outside the house.

However, an obituary stated 17-month-old, Avery McCoy, died suddenly in her Riverside home that same day that police reported to a home of an unresponsive child.

According to spokeswoman, Amy McCoy, the Department of Human Services is investigating Avery's death. However, she couldn't provide any more details than that, saying most child abuse assessment information is confidential under the law.

An autopsy was done on Avery, according to Washington County Recorder, Jo Greiner. Greiner said the results haven't been released and the cause of death hasn't been finalized. She also said Avery had been cremated.

Avery's obituary stated she has 11 brothers and sisters though a neighbor said only about four children were living in the home. The obituary also stated her death comes after her brother's, Dakarai.

No charges have been brought against either of Avery's parents.
