Iowans excited for sweet corn

Posted: Updated:

It's sweet corn season, and many Iowans have already had their first meal of the tasty treat, and they're ready for more.

We caught up with people at BBQ'Loo, and they're saying the best way to prepare sweet corn is to barbecue it.

However, we also talked to people at Heartland Farms, and they're saying the best thing about sweet corn is picking it up.

There are friendly animals, fresh produce, and even a new bouncy pillow at Heartland Farms for people of all ages to enjoy.

Youngsters are saying it's all about the trip.

"We're jumping on the jumping pillow, and it's a lot of fun, because we get to do it with all my sisters and brothers," Adah and Keziah Uglum said.

But, Heartland Farms owner David Myers said the sweet corn is what brings parents back.

"Well, it's tradition about this time of year around the first they're locally ripe. Everybody needs to get a few meals of it. It's tradition, and it tastes good," Myers said.

David says his sweet corn isn't ready for harvest just yet.

He still has a few more weeks, but he does say he buys sweet corn from a farmer out of Muscatine, so there is sweet corn at Heartland Farms and various tents to buy.

Customers say that works perfectly, because they can enjoy sweet corn throughout the summer.

"It's tasting like sugar," Keziah said.

"It's glad to be remembered and thought of, even if it's just for the summer, and it's a good feeling. It's a lot of work, but we do appreciate it, and they like to play and look at the animals, and mom can get some fresh food," Myers said.

We asked our KWWL Facebook friends how they like to prepare sweet corn, and if you have a recipe you'd like to share, you can post it to our page.
