Waterloo kids paint murals for 4th Street bridge

Posted: Updated:

Kids with the Youth Art Team summer camp have been working hard this week at the First Presbyterian Church in Waterloo.

They're painting murals on wood panels that will go up on the 4th Street bridge.

Today, the kids are showing some city officials and others their finished wooden panels.

The panels could be installed sometime in September as long as the construction project remains on schedule.

The kids tell KWWL they hope that when people walk through the bridge and see their painted, wooden panels, they'll feel relaxed, happy and inspired.

"I hope that they feel inspired when they see my painting to do their own art," Vivianna Lopez says.

The wooden panels all have different designs. Some have words on them, some have patterns, others even have some Waterloo icons on them.

The kids took a day to go down the the Cedar River and sketch what they saw. Then, they turned those sketches into larger designs and planned out exactly what they'd want to be on their wooden panels.

The panels will be installed above the windows in one section of the bridge.
