Johnson County warns of scam impersonating deputy

JOHNSON COUNTY (KWWL) -

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office is warning people about a scam that impersonates a deputy. 

People have reported receiving calls or messages from someone who says they are deputy and tells them they missed jury duty or have a warrant out for their arrest. 

The recipient of the call/messages are told to pay a fine or turn themselves in. 

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office says they never ask for money over the phone. 

Officials say the scammer is very convincing.
