Roger's Market opens for season in new location

Posted: Updated:

A local market is back up and running after being pushed from it's original home.

Roger's Market offered fresh produce off of Highway 218 near the C-57 interchange in Black Hawk County for more than 20 years before closing for road construction last year.

Now the new Roger's Market is all set in its new spot in the 8000 block of Waverly Road. Roger's Market owner Matt Christopher says he is starting a new chapter now that the stand he ran for more than 20 years has closed.

"There's not much difference, just we are inside, it will be just as good product as we always had before," said Christopher.

Christopher says the move was frustrating and says the biggest challenge is directing people to the new stand.

"Well I am still mad that I had to stop in the middle of the year," said Christopher. "That was a lot of hauling and transporting and getting people to come with us."

Christopher says driving by the old stand is sad, but he says closing the old stand gave more opportunities to Rogers Market.

"It's kind of hard to see it sit there, but eventually it's just going to be a field again," said Christopher. "I want to make it more of a destination so more people just come out to do all kinds of different shopping."

Customers have been trickling in to the new place for the past two days since the stand opened. Christopher says customers are happy with the new stand.

"They walk through the door and they say, 'wow this is a nice place, we are glad you moved over here'," said Christopher.

Christopher says the great part about a bigger building is allowing other vendors to come in. He plans on having a vendor sell meat there this summer, something they never had at the old stand.

The stand officially opened on Tuesday and will stay open until late October. For more information on Rogers Market CLICK HERE.
