Storms may have caused sanitary sewer to overflow in Dubuque

Posted: Updated:
DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Officials with the city of Dubuque say heavy rains during storms over the past day caused a sanitary sewer manhole to overflow.

As clean-up efforts continue in and around the city to pick up damage left by the storms, the City of Dubuque Engineering Department says it discovered the manhole in the 500 block of Lincoln Avenue, and officials believe it may have overflowed during the heavy rain. They also say untreated wastewater may have been leaked onto the ground in the area. Engineering officials are now trying to confirm if an overflow occurred.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has posted a notice in the area cautioning people to keep their children and pets away from the area in question for the next 48 hours.

More information can be found on the City of Dubuque's website.
