NBA games to see major changes in upcoming season

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

NBA games will get a little bit quicker next season, thanks to the NBA Board of Governors.

The board approved a change to the number of timeouts per game and a shift in the trade deadline. Each team will now get seven time outs instead of nine and all time outs will be 75 seconds. The biggest takeaway is that in the last three minutes of play, each team is now only permitted two timeouts instead of the previous three.

The NBA trade deadline was also voted on, and will be moved to ten days before the All-Star game.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver talked to the press about the changes, "We were more focused here on the pace and the flow of the game. And what we heard from our fans, we heard from many of our teams, was that the end of the games in particular were too choppy."

These rule changes will take effect in the 2017-2018 season.
