Lyric and Elizabeth case still top of mind at Evansdale PD

EVANSDALE (KWWL) -

It's now been five years since two little lives were taken too soon. Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins went missing now five years ago.

The Evansdale cousins went for a bike ride and never returned. Their families reported them missing in the afternoon. Authorities found their bikes on a bike trail near Meyers Lake. Shortly after, hundreds of people came together searching for the girls.

Elizabeth's father, Drew Collins says he keeps waiting for justice in his daughter's case.

"Every day I am waiting for that call from investigators. Just kind of every day you hope today is the day and when you go to be you're like ok maybe tomorrow. It wasn't today, but maybe tomorrow," said Collins.

Evansdale Police Chief Jeff Jensen was a sergeant at the time the girls went missing, taking over as chief just a couple of years ago.

"I would like to know what happened. I want to know," said Jensen.

So what exactly happened to Lyric and Elizabeth? That's the question Jensen and his crew have been asking themselves for a while now. In fact, their photos can be found throughout the department. It's a reminder these murders still needs to be solved.

"I mean it dwells, especially the officer that were on duty. I think they take it especially hard because they were on duty," said Jensen.

He says the police department talks about the girls often. Jensen says they get about three to four call a week and those tips will pick up on the anniversaries.

"They need to come forward. They need to get this taken care of. There's a lot of people who need some answers about this whole situation," said Jensen.
