Zach Johnson Foundation Classic returns to Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Zach Johnson is back on his old training grounds, returning to Elmcrest Country club for the 7th straight year to host his foundation's annual golf classic

“This is awesome, back in my old stomping ground, literally,” the two-time major champion said on Monday, “My old hometown. It's special.”

Professionals and celebrities hit the fairways in an effort to raise money for Cedar Rapids area youth programs, and Johnson said seeing his friends from the tour helping out is a big deal --

“It's not easy to get here. For them to make this a priority is special,” said Johnson.

Fourteen PGA tour pros made the journey, the most in the history of this event. That meant some big money for the Zach Johnson Foundation.

“Last night we raised more than we've ever raised,” said Johnson, “but that just goes to show we've got great people in the right spots.”

One of those people, up and coming tour pro Brian Harman, was glad to help out.”

“Zach's been so good to me. He's good to this community,” said Harman, “I have so much respect, so when he asked me to do this, it was a no brainer.”

The event has raised more than one million dollars over its seven years.

“I don't think they understand how much having them come here does for our program,” Johnson said, “It's huge. We're raising great money for a program that does great things.”
