Denver tops Oelwein 5-0 in postseason opener

DENVER, Colo. (KWWL) -

Denver started their run toward a second straight appearance in the state baseball tournament with a 5-0 win over Oelwein to open the class 2A districts.

Denver sophomore Brock Farley struck the big blow in the bottom of the first inning, crushing a two-strike pitch over the wall in right-centerfield, driving in two runs for an early 2-0 lead. Farley went 2-for-2 in the game, with two runs, and two RBI's. Junior Zach Miller and eighth grader Bryce Phelps combined on the mound for the shut-out.

The Cyclones advanced to face Aplington-Parkersburg in district play on Tuesday.
