Update: Mechanical failure causes outage

Posted: Updated:

Update: Mid American crews say Saturday's outage was caused by a mechanical failure.

They say the affected breaker was isolated. So, repairs can be made while customers' power can remain working.

According to a few Mid-American customers, their power is back on after an outage Saturday.

A company spokesperson confirms, power was restored at 6:45 p.m.

We are still working to confirm what caused the circuit outage.

Nearly 3,500 people are without power after circuits went out in the Waterloo area.

Mid American Energy says four circuits are out and causing a widespread power outage.

The power outage was reported just before 6 p.m.

Mid American Energy says 3,455 customers have been affected in Waterloo with 246 other customers affected in surrounding towns.

Mid American says a crew is on scene working to find the cause of the circuit outage.
