Enjoying Lake Delhi, back to full level

Posted: Updated:

Several people enjoyed a boat ride on Lake Delhi in Delaware County, overjoyed with its return.

The lake has been restored and is back at the level before the dam broke seven years ago. Heavy rains caused it to fail, affecting not only the lake, but also the people in the tight knit community.

"We got flooded out of our house, we had six feet of water, inside our house and the marina. I affected our business for six, seven years," said Mitch Stender, whose parents own Hartwick Marina.

But with summer in peak season, and the lake full again, things are back to normal. "It feels awesome...Everyone is happy, everyone is relieved it's back," Stender said .

Families can once again delight in their vacation homes, and do not have to go elsewhere anymore.

"Some of our cabin kind of got flooded, and I used to come out here when I was a little girl, it's nice to have it back and running," said Eve Wedewer of Manchester.

In celebration, the community plans to host the event, 'Dam Right We're Back Bash 2017' at various areas around the lake. It is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 5 from 11 a.m. to  9 p.m.
