Vacant trailer fire, Muscatine

Muscatine Joint Communications Center, got a 911 phone call of a vacant trailer fire at 3:17 a.m., Friday, July 7, behind 1503 D Avenue. 

When fire crews arrived, heavy flames were coming from the front half of the building. Crews initiated a fire attack and 'knocked down' the main body of fire within a few minutes. The fire had already destroyed the front half of the structure prior to bringing the fire under control. With the report of the structure being vacant, fire crews utilized an exterior attack to gain control.

Crews were still on the scene, as of 5:15 a.m., continuing to work to fully extinguish hidden fire. The fire was officially called under control at 3:56 a.m.. Crews will remain on scene and the investigation of the fire will begin shortly. Loss estimate is approximately $2,000.

The Muscatine Fire Department was assisted by the Muscatine Police Department and the Fruitland Fire Department. Approximately 14 fire fighters responded to the fire, including some off-duty personnel.

There were no injuries to responders or bystanders.
