Dubuque City Council votes to keep fireworks ban

Posted: Updated:
DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

No fireworks can be set off in Dubuque, at least for the time being.

The Dubuque City Council voted Wednesday night 5-2 to approve an ordinance amendment on the use of fireworks in the city. Council members Jake Rios and Luis Del Toro were the two who voted against continuing the ban.

This means using fireworks in Dubuque will still be illegal, despite a change in state law.

Council members argued using fireworks in the city would create confusion and lead to more trouble. They also worried about safety.

Despite the ban, people will still be able to buy fireworks in the city.
