JOHNSON COUNTY (KWWL) -

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office says a man riding a bicycle has died after he hit an animal and crashed.

Officers say 70-year-old Franklin Dahn of Lake Mills was riding his bike down a hill near the 3200 block of Sugar Bottom Road in rural Johnson County on June 30, when he collided with the animal in the road. He was flown to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, but later died from his injuries. It isn't known what kind of animal Dahn hit. He was wearing a helmet when he crashed.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Solon Fire Department, Johnson County Ambulance and AirCare at the scene.
