Hawkeyes snag grad transfer RB from Nevada

Posted: Updated:

Iowa's backfield may get an immediate boost this fall. Nevada running back James Butler tweeted on Tuesday that he plans to transfer to play for the Hawkeyes next season. As a graduate transfer, Butler would be immediately eligible.

Butler, an Illinois native, is coming off back-to-back 1,000 yard rushing seasons for the Wolfpack and leaves Nevada as the school's eighth all-time leading rusher. During his junior season in 2016, he averaged 5.1 yards per carry and scored a career-high 12 touchdowns.

Butler joins an already solid Hawkeye backfield which returns senior Akrum Wadley.
