6-year-old found, Iowa City woman charged with taking him

Posted: Updated:
IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

A 6-year-old boy was found in the woods with bug bites and scratches on his body.

An Iowa City woman has been charged with taking him.

Investigators say they learned that Amy Green had taken the child from an Iowa City home last week.

They were last seen going into the woods near Taft Speedway and north of the Iowa River.

Authorities say Green has a history illegal drug use and mental health issues that would've put the child in danger.

Officers searched with K9s, ATVs and a boat.

Green and the child were found four hours after they disappeared.

They were found along the shoreline under thick brush.

Investigators say Green told the child to stay quiet or he would never see his dad again.

They say Green appeared to be under the influence of something at the time.

They also say she admitted taking and hiding the boy to keep him away from his father and other relatives.

She has now been charged with child stealing.
