Waterloo native, former Black Hawk Petersen signs with LA Kings

Posted: Updated:

Waterloo native Cal Petersen inked a 2-year entry level deal with the Los Angeles Kings. The move came just over a month after the former Waterloo Black Hawk announced he would leave Notre Dame prior to his senior season.

The 22-year-old goaltender appeared in 40 games with the Irish last season, posting a 23-12-5 record with six shut-outs. He was the first goalie in Notre Dame history to serve as the team's captain. Petersen ranked first in the nation in minutes played (2,375), tied for first in shutouts, tied for fifth in wins and 11th in save percentage. He helped Notre Dame post the 12th best team goals-against average in the country.

As a Waterloo Black Hawk, Petersen holds the all-time team lead with 51 victories in net.
