Bucks top Eau Claire 8-3, tied for first

Posted: Updated:

The Waterloo Bucks rode a six run first inning as they topped Eau Claire 8-3 on Saturday night. The win kept Waterloo tied with Saint Cloud on top of the Northwoods League North Division standings.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning, Waterloo's Ian Nelson drilled a 2-run homer to right center for his first shot of the year. Tyler Stover followed with an RBI single and Joe Genord's run scoring double made it a 4-1 game still in the first frame. That wasn't the end as Deion Thompson drove in Genord with a single to center, and John Cable capped the barrage with an RBI triple to complete the big opening inning.

Hunter Spencer (4-2) picked up the win striking out six batters in six innings of work.
