CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A Cedar Rapids man is being charged with Attempted Murder after allegedly stabbing another man four times in the back, shooting at him and then attempting to run him over.

76-year-old Ronald Gonterman was arrested at his home a short time after the incident which happened around noon on Thursday.

Today police and Johnson County investigators were at his home on Bever Avenue SE gathering evidence.

The alleged stabbing happened at the Hawkeye Wildlife Area in Johnson County.

According to police the victim knew Gonterman and called 911 himself after the attack but he did not know exactly where he was so they used 911 mapping to track him.

He was found in the Hawkeye Wilfelife  Area near the intersection of Swan Lake Road and Greencastle Avenue which is 3/4 of a mile from where officers believe the attack happened.

Investigators bagged several pieces of evidence from a truck parked out from of Gonterman's home today.

Animal Care and Control took his dog from the house as well.

A neighbor tells us she has lived on the same block as Gonterman nearly all of her life.

"It's really shocking because he doesn't seem like a guy who would do that just by knowing him," says  Taylor Courtright.

Meanwhile another neighbor thought otherwise.

"We are very blessed that the cops have did their job and got this man off the street," says Ijyonna Morrow.
"Ever since I had moved here I had knew that something was up with this man, I didn't know what but something was up with this man and just reading the article and everything that's going on, I'm not shocked at all," she added.

The victim was taken to the University of Iowa Hospital and is expected to survive.
Police say the man was able to give officers Gonterman's name and describe him as well as the truck he was driving.
