Iowa Big North's 'Drive-Up' Theater back in action Friday night

Posted: Updated:

The boys of Iowa Big North will be at it again Friday night, June 30, in New Hampton.

Their IBN program will show its latest 'Drive Up' movie, just after dark Friday night at 960 East Main Street in New Hampton. That's the location of the former Dungey's Furniture store, right across from the New Hampton swimming pool.

This month's feature film is Central Intelligence. The movie will start at 9:20 pm.

A few weeks ago, Iowa Big North program students from New Hampton and Charles City began showing the summertime movies to give area students a fun a place to go, free of any peer pressures of using alcohol or drugs.

Their 'Drive Up' Theater created by the students to provide a positive option for young people on weekends in the communities of New Hampton and Charles City.

The students have been featured in recent articles by Bob Fenske of the New Hampton Tribune and Nashua Reporter. In one article, New Hampton Junior, Hunter Carey, the IBN Project leader, said, “We really wanted to offer something alcohol and drug free for people of our age, and we know the interest is there for something like this.”

In addition to Hunter Carey, the students include Jared Aegerter, Jordan Drewelow and Devon McClain of New Hampton, along with Charles City students Charter West, Dylan Parsons and John Olerich.

Their idea was to show two movies a month all summer at parks in both New Hampton and Charles City, showing the movies every other Friday and Saturday nights. The students have been working with the New Hampton Parks and Recreation Department.
