Prairieburg slowly returning to normal after EF-2 tornado

Posted: Updated:

The town of Prairieburg is slowly returning to normal just one day after an EF-2 tornado ripped through tearing apart people's homes and lives.

The cleanup process is still far from over. Signs of devastation remain all over town.

Jeremy Oswald grew up visiting Prairieburg where his family once lived.

"I was at a loss of words," Oswald said. "There was nothing you could say other than just prayers."

When he heard what happened he said he had to do something to help.

"I have been in this town so much and everyone has always treated me like family and I knew as soon I got up here I could help somebody out," he said.

Oswald said they spent all morning going house to house helping with what they could and that the cleanup process has gone quickly because of a huge turnout of support.

Yet, among the destruction there are signs of returning to normal. Children were out playing and the town's bar, Prairie Moon, was open all day providing an escape.

Inside, many people were taking advantage of having a moment to relax and take a break from a full days worth of cleaning up, refueling with a hot meal, an iced cold drink and just forgetting, if only for a moment.

"We're not going to let this thing knock his down. We're going to end up rebuilding,"  Oswald said.
