Top ranked New Hampton splits double-header with #8 Waverly-Shell Rock

WAVERLY (KWWL) -

Waverly-Shell Rock handed the Chickasaws their first conference loss of the season in walk-off fashion in game one, while New Hampton countered with an offensive outburst to take the night-cap and earn the split.

Trailing 2-1 in the opener (with all 3 runs scoring on sac flies) Waverly-Shell Rock's Carson Kallenberger lifted a deep third inning fly that caromed off the glove of center fielder Zach Wemark. The error allowed a pair of runs to score for a 3-2 Go-Hawk lead.

Carter Stochl's RBI base hit to left in the top of the sixth tied the game at 3 apiece, eventually sending it to extra innings. With a runner on second in the bottom of the eighth inning, Go-Hawk junior Ryan Willis knocked a base hit to center, scoring Brady Thompson as W-SR walked off with a 4-3 win, leaving both teams with a single conference loss at the moment.

"It was awesome. That's the kind of things you dream about growing up. New Hampton's obviously a big rival and getting the walk off win against them is awesome," Willis said after the win.

New Hampton turned the tables in game two.

Junior Aden Zwanziger roped an RBI single to center to cap a three run first inning and the Chickasaws never looked back scoring five runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth in a runaway 15 to 7 win that put them back in control of the conference title race.
