New mountain bike trail opens in Dubuque County

Posted: Updated:

People in the Dubuque area who want to ride their bikes on tough terrain will no longer have to go very far.

Cloie Creek Mountain Bike Trail is now open. The dirt trail is 2.3 miles, on a 20 acre park.

It is nestled in the town of Asbury, just steps away from homes, but still feels like the wilderness. It is located within a new park being built by the city of Asbury.

The non-profit group, TMBR, also known as the Tri-state Mountain Bikers, has been in charge of the project. "The three primary loops, we have two greens, which are very entry level. You're gonna find features like rollers like if you're an advanced rider, give you a chance to have some fun and get off the ground, and maybe catch a little air." said Brett Errthum, president of the organization.

The expert area features jumps and banked turns.

The trail is also kid friendly. "It's really fun and different, then like just riding down the street. There's a lot of bumps and curves, and it's really fun," said 11-year-old Melina Brandon.

Another mountain bike trail is in the works for the Dubuque area. Plans are for it to be six to eight miles. It will possibly open next year.
