UPDATE: Two children killed in icy crash near Anamosa

Posted: Updated:

A 6-year-old and 8-year-old are dead after the car they were in was hit by a semi-truck after sliding through a stop sign on Highway 151 near Anamosa. This happened Sunday afternoon.

Brandon James Hunter, 32, and Molli Hunter, 31, were driving that car. They're severely injured along with their 13-year-old daughter. The Hunter family lives in Monticello. According to a Go Fund Me page, all three are at the University of Iowa Hospital.

Diamond and Donald Hunter were both students at Carpenter Elementary School in Monticello.

The superintendent there says it's been tough for the students since they found out that two of their classmates died.

"It's very sullen. I think it hits close to home for everybody," said Brian Jaeger, Monticello's superintendent.

He says that sadness reaches far beyond just the walls of that school.

"It's very hard. First, our hearts go out to that family, and their relatives that live in the community. But it's hard on everybody, and the community takes the blow like that, and it affects everyone," he said.

Ryan Powers, from Wisconsin, was driving the semi-truck.

The crash remains under investigation.
