UPDATE: Former UNI professor gets 95-year sentence for raping, sexually assaulting children

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: Cedar Falls Police say a number of people have come forward saying Longnecker sexually abused them in Iowa, back when they were children in the 70's and 80's.

Cedar Falls Police Captain Mike Hayes says, "I have taken around 6 or 7 reports, but Arkansas authorities also got statements from people that lived here." Police say before he retired and moved away,  Longnecker lived just blocks away from the old Lincoln Elementary School in Cedar Falls.

From the information police has gathered, Hayes believes some of his victims were abused inside his Cedar Falls home.

Under Iowa law to bring criminal charges in sexual abuse cases, you have to report it within ten years after your 18th birthday. Unfortunately, that time has passed for many of these reports, but Hayes says he will still take victim statements.

A former professor at the University of Northern Iowa has been sentenced to 95 years in prison for raping and sexually assaulting four children.

77-year-old John Longnecker, who now lives in Arkansas, pleaded guilty Monday in a courtroom in Bentonville, Arkansas.

According to Arkansas Online, Longnecker admitted he engaged in sexual acts with the children and also video recorded the crimes.  Court documents show he had the images on his computer. He also reportedly possessed other child pornography images.

According to the UNI website, Longnecker is listed as a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Mathematics, meaning he is now retired from the university. He was taken into custody in Benton County, Arkansas on July 22nd.
