Iowans brave frigid cold weather

Posted: Updated:
DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

It's frigidly cold in Dubuque but that hasn't stopped some from braving the elements.

"Very, very cold. Really cold out here. I will not be outside tomorrow. I will be in the house." said DeQuavius Andrews.

Andrews stepped out Saturday to buy a few things at the grocery store.

Across town, others are getting a workout in the bleak weather. "We're devoted, I guess. We've been running since the summertime so we decided to try and do it at least through the winter," said Ally Lukens from Dubuque.

"We're kinda at a slower pace, but I think we both understand we're not gonna go as fast as we did in May and in June," added Emilie Dalsing.

Some are spending part of their day clearing sidewalks. While others are just taking a stroll.

By early afternoon, light snow began to fall.

It didn't seem to cause problems for cars driving on the s-curve on Central Avenue in downtown. However with the temperature falling over the next day, it may be a different issue Sunday.

Authorities in Dubuque say they've responded to several accidents from Friday to Saturday afternoon throughout the city. At last check, at least 24 crashes. They say none of them major.

Also, since it started snowing again, the Jule Bus transit system in Dubuque is now using alternative routes until road conditions improve.
