Friday's snow brings slick roads

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Weather played a part in several accidents along the highways in Eastern Iowa on Friday evening.

A crash on Highway 20 East near the Elk Run exit left two vehicles on opposite sides of road.

Evansdale Fire worked for some time to get one person out of a truck.

Through out the evening hours plows worked hard to clear the roads and prevent further accidents.

Off the highway, roads were slushy, snow packed, and slick.

Drivers said they were slowing down, but this weather wasn't anything they couldn't handle.

"It's Iowa. It is Iowa in December. It is at the point now in the winter where people have actually remembered how to drive, so it is not as bad as the first snow storm of the year," said driver Mark Mahler.

While some vehicles are finding the roads slick others are finding the conditions just right.

A few die hard snowmobile riders took to the fresh snow Friday evening and they don't plan to let the bitter cold this weekend stop them.

"That ain't going to bother me. We are going to get out and ride. It feels really nice to get out in the snow; nice and fluffy," said snowmobile rider Harold Jackson.
