Cow hit twice in Wisconsin crashes, including hit and run

Police in Grant County, Wisconsin say a cow was hit twice in a chain reaction accident Wednesday night.

The crashes happened near the intersection of Reynolds Ridge Road near the intersection County Road U south of Lancaster around 7:30 last night. Officers say a car traveling north struck the cow in the middle of road and then left the scene. 39-year-old Tammy Clauer of rural Lancaster had approached the cow first and was able to avoid it by driving into a roadside ditch, but saw the collision happen after her near miss.

38-year-old Jerid Baranczyk of Dubuque was traveling southbound and slowed down, but also hit the cow after the first strike. His car had minor damage and no injuries were reported, but the cow was killed in the crashes and removed from the scene.
