Hempstead students bring Christmas cheer for families in need

Posted: Updated:
DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Hempstead High School students spent part of their Wednesday afternoon wrapping presents for families and people in need this year.

The effort, in it's tenth year, means students and families of students in need get some much needed holiday cheer.

They wrapped hundreds of donated presents for six families and four individuals--all anonymous.

Natalie Nemmers, one of the counselors who organizes the effort, says it's a great chance to teach these students perspective this time of year.

"It really is heart warming. It gives the kids a lot to think about. For our students who are really fortunate, and realizing wow, people are asking for toiletries, and things for their Christmas, when sometimes they get caught up in their own wishes for the season, so it's really nice to see the kids really pulling together," Nemmers said.

The gifts were donated by students, families and local businesses.
