Toys for Tots makes Christmas gifts possible for area families

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Thousands of kids who may not otherwise have presents to open on Christmas morning now will because of Toys for Tots.

Distribution of toys through Toys for Tots is underway in Cedar Rapids thanks to the Salvation Army, many volunteers and generous donations.

More than 100 places in Linn County were drop off locations this year for people to donate toys.

Cassey Bradford is a single mom of three who wants to give her children Zydacia, Zyana and Zytez a merry Christmas.

"I think they're gonna be excited when I wrap everything and just see it, get it under the tree they don't have anything under there yet," Bradford says.

She tells us it gets hard around the holidays.

"Around Christmas time with bills and stuff it kinda gets hard you know trying to make sure everybody gets what they want."

Through Toys for Tots Bradford and many other parents are able to hand pick gifts for each child.

The joy of Toys for Tots is also found in the volunteers.

"Knowing that all of this stuff was donated you know by individuals, companies, to give back to the community it's all about that," says Tracy Folkmann.

Bradford looks forward to seeing three faces light up on Christmas morning.

"It means they're gonna have a good Christmas and I just want them to be happy," she says.
This year the Salvation Army through Toys  for Tots is providing toys to 2,400 kids in Linn County.
