Monday evening in the bitter cold weather, multiple fire fighters respond to this blaze in downtown Ossian.

The flames overtaking the second-hand shop called clover station just steps away from Main Street.

"The flames were shooting higher than the roof line," said Dennis Holien, Ossian Fire Chief.

The day after, the building is covered with ice but still smoldering. Nothing is recognizable. Just about everything burned.

For firefighters putting it out was a challenge. "It's cold and things turn to ice and you got problems with water delivery and all that kinda stuff and you just pray to God that you can get it out."

The building also served a home for the shop owner Cynthia Jacobson, and her brother. They lived in the back.

Thankfully, they weren't inside. "Like I said she was gone, she was outta there, I think she was gone for half an hour,"said chief Holien.

KWWL's Shirley Descorbeth spoke with Cynthia, the woman who lives there. She was emotional, but says stuff is just stuff. She is grateful to come from such a caring community.

At the moment, she's staying with friends and doesn't want to dwell too much on what happened.

Authorities do not know what caused the fire. They say it will be difficult to determine because of the destruction.

Ossian firefighters are trying to figure out what caused a massive fire at a business. The fire destroyed the business called the Clover Station. Firefighters say it was a second hand store and the owner lived in the back. She was not home at the time of the fire and is now staying with friends.
