CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

With the help of Cedar Rapids Police Protective Charity, 103 children in need went home with new winter clothes to keep warm this winter.

A record 28 cops showed up to Target, Thursday, to pair up with children to take them shopping. Officers helped the kids pick out all the necessarily winter accessories such as new winter coats, snow pants, gloves, hats, and boots.

At the end, each children was treated to an additional present from Santa.

Jerime Thomas just moved to Cedar Rapids from Memphis with his family. He has two daughters, Stephine and Kimbria, that spent the day with officers shopping. He said there's nothing like this back home.

"This helped us out a whole lot and that's a good thing so I appreciate them doing that," Thomas said.

Both girls left the store warm, with all smiles, as the proud owners of a new Barbie doll.

The Cedar Rapids Police Protective Charity also hosts a "Shop with a Cop" at the beginning of the school year for school supplies and is 100% donation funded.
