UPDATE WITH DETAILS: Highway 150 south of Hazleton now open

UPDATE: One woman is airlifted to a hospital after an accident involving a semi and a pickup truck south of Hazleton.

Around 6:45 a.m., the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office received 911 reports of an accident in the 1300 block of Jamestown Avenue (IA Hwy 150) south of Hazleton.

According to the investigation, a 1995 Ford F150 operated by Nicole Long of Independence was traveling north on Jamestown Avenue when she crossed the center line and struck a southbound semi operated by David Sogard of Jewell, IA. Both vehicles collided nearly head on before Long's vehicle rolled onto its side in the roadway.

The semi came to a stop along the edge of the roadway.  Sogard was uninjured in the accident.

Long had to be extricated from her vehicle by mechanical means and was transported via helicopter to a hospital in Waterloo with unspecified injuries.

The accident remains under investigation and charges are pending.

Jamestown Avenue was shut down for over an hour while the accident was investigated and cleaned up.

The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Iowa State Patrol, Hazleton Fire Department, Oelwein Fire Department, Oelwein Mercy Ambulance Service, AirCare and Iowa Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement.


UPDATE: Hwy 150 is now open at 140th Street south of Hazleton.

The road had been closed for a motor vehicle accident but has since been reopened following the accident investigation and scene clean up.

No other details are being released at this time.
