Iowa Native gives back to local Toys for Tots

Posted: Updated:

A veteran returns back to his hometown of Cedar Falls to donate to the local Toys for Tots. He also invited local students with him, teaching them the beauty of helping others.

David Prescott grew up in Cedar Falls and went to St. Patrick Catholic School.

Prescott says, "I grew up in this area when Deere was having a lot of rough times. My dad was laid off several times, so I definitely know what it is like to have some thin Christmases."

In memory of his friend, Gerald Nicely, Prescott is donating $10,000 worth of toys to our local Toys for Tots program. He had current 7th and 8th graders from St. Patrick join him.

Lisa Vry-Lageschulte of Toys for Tots says, "When he first emailed me, I honestly thought someone was pulling my leg because we have never had someone do something like this ever before."

All the toys are handpicked by the students, showing each and every one of them the beauty of giving back.

Marine Cody Nicolas says, "It shows them the meaning of Christmas, you know it's about helping other people and not just yourself."

Prescott says, "It gives them a sense of giving."

We at KWWL proudly support Toys for Tots. We usually have a bin in our lobby, but because of current construction we had to move it. For a full list on bin locations to donate, visit their website at: ToysforTots.org
