IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Iowa freshman forward Tyler Cook will be sidelined approximately three weeks after injuring a finger during a game last week. Cook fractured his right index finger while in practice at the Emerald Coast Classic in Niceville, Florida.

Cook had surgery on the finger today and did not make the trip for tonight's game at Notre Dame.

“After discussions with Tyler and the medical staff, it was determined that surgery was the best treatment for Tyler in terms of proper healing and recovery time,” said head coach Fran McCaffery. “We expect Tyler to make a full recovery and look forward to him rejoining his teammates on the court soon.”

Cook started the first six games of his college career averaging 13.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.

Cordell Pemsl will make the start at Notre Dame in his place.
