Oelwein counterfeit ring busted

The Oelwein Police Department arrested two men they say were involved in making and using counterfeit money.

The department searched a home in the 10 block of 6th Street NW on November 26, 2016.

Officers found items used to manipulate currency, printers, items used to manufacture currency, counterfeit currency and illegal drugs at the home.

On the same day, police also searched a home in the 10 block of 2nd Avenue NW and found nearly $4,000 in counterfeit bills.

Oelwein Police arrested Forrest Shane Spitzer, 41, of Oelwein and Michael Melvern Miller, 21, of Oelwein.

Spitzer is charged with Fraudulent Practices, Class D Felony & Possession of controlled substances, Serious Misdemeanor.

Miller is charged with Fraudulent Practices, Class D Felony & Theft of Lottery Tickets, Class D Felony.

The investigation continues with further arrests and charges pending.
