Posted: Updated:
VINTON (KWWL) -

According to Benton County dispatchers, firefighters responded to a barn fire near Vinton.

Initially, firefighters were concerned livestock could be inside or near the barn that was burning, but witnesses say no livestock or people appeared to be hurt.

Vinton Fire Chief Gary McKenna says they were called to the fire around 3:37 p.m. Sunday.

Witnesses say the barn sits on a Dairy Farm at 5541 27th Avenue Drive in Benton County.

A witness tells KWWL they believe the Birker family owns the Dairy Farm.

Chief McKenna says there were no injuries to livestock or people.

McKenna says the owners were there milking cows when the fire started in the feed shed, and it spread to the main milking area.

Firefighters worked for nearly four hours to douse the flames.

Several surrounding agencies were initially called to the fire around 4:00 p.m. Saturday.

Chief McKenna says the cost of the damage was quite extensive.
