World's oldest person reveals her secret to longevity

Posted: Updated:

CBS46) - The world's oldest person at 117 years young, Emma Morana, credits a daily diet rich in eggs — and leaving a marriage in which she was unhappy, with granting her longevity.

Morana, an Italian woman, turned 117 on Sunday, November 27, and is reportedly the world's oldest living person. She's also the last living person to have been born in the 1800's.

When she was born in 1899, William McKinley was the president, packaged, sliced bread wasn't easily accessible and the world was a very different place.

She credits her longevity to eating eggs. Emma first began eating eggs in her teens when a doctor prescribed them to treat anemia. Since then, Emma has eaten more than 100,000 eggs.

According to a People Magazine profile, she also credits staying single. Morana reportedly separated from her husband in 1938 and has remained single since.

“I didn’t want to be dominated by anyone,” she told the New York Times.
