A Janesville family's home is still standing after erupting in flames Friday morning. Janesville firefighters were able to contain the fire and repaired the roof later Friday afternoon.

The fire happened on Winslow road, between Janesville and Finchford.

Nobody was injured in the fire. Janesville firefighters say the family was out of town.

Firefighters responded to the call just after 8:30 a.m.

"Just a lot of smoke," said Janesville firefighter Aaron Anderson.

After battling the heavy smoke, and tearing through the rood to reach the flames, firefighters were able to contain the fire.

"Everybody's safe, we're just here helping out," said Anderson.

Firefighters came back later in the day to clean up as much damage as they could.

"We're just repairing the roof getting it covered up for any rain or something like that," said Anderson.

Panel by panel, firefighters made sure no part of the house was left exposed. Boarding up windows and even helping to clear out some of the family's belongings that were caught in the fire.

Firefighters say they don't know what caused the fire, but they believe it started in the kitchen.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
