Owner "Thankful nobody got hurt" in business fire

Posted: Updated:

We are hearing from the owner of a business nearly lost on Thanksgiving day to a large fire.

It happened at Iowa Gold Distributing in Central City.

Remains from the fire are easy to see as it has been smoldering all day.

The owner, Bob Walters says he started the business 26 years ago and he is thankful no one got hurt.

"Thankful nobody got hurt, we are thankful it wasn't a real windy day and that they saved the main building," he says.

Walters told us the building that burned was used for storage, housing used oil recyclables.

With the majority of his business still standing he says they will still function.

"It definitely turned out the best that it could have I mean obviously it would have been best if the building wouldn't have burned down but it definitely was the best that it could have been," says Korin Manson, who witnessed the fire.

With everyone safe and a business that believes it will be able to go on, we are told there is so much to be thankful for.

"I'm glad it really like it wasn't a families home. I'm glad we weren't watching somebody lose everything right before the holidays. I'm super grateful that it didn't come across the street and it didn't effect anybody in the residence home. I'm glad we didn't have to evacuate, I'm just super thankful that it didn't cause anybody to lose their life," Mason told us.

The Central City Fire Chief says they kept water on the main building in effort to keep the fire from spreading.
