Gobble Gobble: Frying turkeys

Posted: Updated:

Imagine cooking six turkeys in a few hours.

Cedar Falls business owner, Todd Steil, says he has it down to a science after doing it for 20 years.

Todd said he starts frying the big birds every Thanksgiving morning around 9:00 a.m. for friends, neighbors, and employees; and he always gets done by the afternoon.

Unlike most experts, Todd said he's excited to share his secrets.

"Use peanut oil, that's the key. It's a little more expensive, but you won't have any flare-ups or flames. It's fun to do. It's nice and juicy. The only downfall is that you have to make your own dressing and gravy, but the turkeys are awesome," Todd said.

Of course, Todd recommends always deep-frying your turkey outside, make sure it's thawed, drop it in slowly, and allow at least 45 minutes per bird to cook.
